After further review, there is a change in the outcome of The Sterling Cup. It turns out that Drew Lydecker slipped through waivers prior to tee off and was on the Agent Team, not the Provider Team as previously reported. As a result, the Agent Team benefited and pulled out the dramatic victory in The Sterling Cup.
The news of the revamped Teams swept across the island of Key Biscayne and throughout the industry. Many Agents were happy with the change but the Providers were not as pleased. "Typical Agent - changes allegiance whenever it suits them", commented one Provider who requested anonymity. "It's always something with those guys. If it's not more commission points, it's a new team or new provider with any change of wind", noted another disgruntled Provider. But the newly jubilant Agent Team members waived off the Provider comments. "Hey, they know I'm great and that is why the Providers wanted me on their team. But I'm an Agent -and darn proud of it. The guys on this Agent Team, they are my brothers, my family. I would never let them down and I am happy to be where I belong, with the Agents", remarked Lydecker as his teammates covered him with hugs and beer.
Due to the change in Team composition, the Agents were able to set the tone early. Bill Power's net eagle on the long Par 5, 4th hole set the pace and put the Agents up by two shots. After Drew Lydecker's net eagle on the fantastic Par 4, 7th hole bettered Scott Armstrong's birdie on the same hole, the Agent's lead was three. The Agents maintained that three shot lead at the turn due in part to the steady play of Cliff McDow - medalist on the day - and Dan Josephson's consistent play on the front nine Par 3's. It was then up to the Agents to fight off the Providers on the back nine, which they did. Bill Mansfield's net eagle on the Par 5, 10th hole along with Lydecker's birdie on the Par 4, 15th hole was enough to fight off the late charge put forth by the Providers. As a result, Joel Balistreri's net birdies on the Par 3, 12th hole and Par 5, 18th hole and Holli Hallenbeck's net birdie on the 17th hole were too little, too late for the Providers.
There is debate and finger-pointing as we put a wrap on The Sterling Cup. But the tension seems to have fueled the fire for a re-match between the Teams. Until such time, though, it is the Agents that prove dominate in the industry and certainly, the Team to beat, or in the case of others, the Team to join
